Outside there is seating for
around 120 guests in the fantastic landscaped garden terraces, with stunning valley views – creating the perfect place to settle in the summer. Not forgetting that is, the roaring fires for cosying up to in the winter. The pub serves real ales,
Butcombe and Cornish Coaster, as well as an impressive 30-strong wine
list. The menus are always changing, and at the moment the starters include grilled sardines with chervil, parsley and lemon butter, and sauté asparagus with crispy pancetta, boiled duck egg and dill hollandaise. For the main courses, Wheelwrights Arms serves numerous old favourites like sausage and mash, and Butcombe beer-battered fish and chips. There is also a delicious offering of roasted rump of lamb with a herb and pine nut crust with buttered savoy cabbage and redcurrant and port sauce. Vegetarians are also well catered for, with choices including griddled aubergine, courgette, red onion and buffalo mozzarella Wellington with red pepper sauce. The pub recently featured in the Independent on Sunday's 'Six of the best: Veggie friendly restaurants'. The Wheelwrights Arms hosts many
entertaining events, from a quiz on the first Tuesday of the month, to barbecue lunches. There are also seven luxury en-suite bedrooms should you wish to stay as well as a large car park for guests. BL
