MAKE: Spring Mobile by Verity Warne of www.folksy.com/shops/madebyloulabelle

This is a lovely, simple Spring- themed project involving very little sewing! The end result is a beautiful

mobile which would look perfect in any child’s room.

Materials: • Fabric scraps in coordinating shades– using fabrics that are all of a similar weight (e.g. quilting cotton) works best • Iron-on Interfacing • Spray-on starch • Nylon “invisible thread” • Embroidery hoop • Bondaweb (available from most haberdashery shops) • Scissors • Iron

Method: 1. First decide on your mobile theme. I chose woodland animals but you

could equally opt for flowers or anything else you fancy. Draw your designs or print/copy a free stock image from the web. Bear in mind that your images need a strong silhouette shape. Trace your shapes onto the paper side of the Bondaweb and cut the shapes out roughly.

2. To prepare the fabric, spray on the starch and iron according to the starch instructions. Next, iron the interfacing to the wrong side of your fabrics.

3. To create the fabric shapes, fold one of your fabric scraps in half with right sides together.

Iron one of the

Bondaweb template images to one side of the folded fabric, making sure the glue side of the Bondaweb is facing the interfaced side of the fabric.
