John Bouthillette is a highly decorated Chief of Police with a distinguished 26-year career who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Police Administration, a Master Certificate in Public Administration and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He is also recognized as a subject matter expert who has lectured both nationally and internationally on the topic of officer safety and survival.


Chief Bouthillette’s lecture is designed for all police officers regardless of rank or assignment and focuses primarily on aspects of surviving critical incidents based on his own personal story of survival. Chief Bouthillette was critically injured in the line of duty and provides personal and valuable insight on how he survived this deadly encounter.


During the lecture, Chief Bouthillette will discuss issues related to how an officer involved shooting can involve an officer’s personal life, family and department. During his lecture he addresses issues pertaining to developing a survival mindset, the need to develop a post incident action plan and the issues associated with recovering both mentally and physically from this type of critical incident.


Chief Bouthillette has been a featured speaker of the Mid-Atlantic Great Lakes Organized Crime Law Enforcement Network (MAGLOCLEN) and has lectured on behalf of the United States Marshal’s Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the FBI National Academy Association. He is also a featured speaker for the U.S. Dept. of Justice VALOR initiative which is a training program that has been designed to help prevent violence against law enforcement officers and ensure officer resilience and survivability following violent encounters during the course of their duties.
