If you’re looking for a great family day out this May and Summer, look no further than Newport Wetlands Nature Reserve.

t has it all – including beautiful scenic walks where you can explore and spot hundreds of different types of animals, insects and wildlife.


there’s also an amazing adventure play area for the kids, with its fourmetre high replication of the east usk lighthouse to climb and have fun in. at the rsp visitor centre you can enjoy a bit of retail therapy or have a nice relaxing sit down, with a delicious bite to eat and a gorgeous coffee after your epic day of adventure and discovery. all profits from the shop and café go towards the conservation of the reserve.


newport wetlands is open every day, except hristmas day, from am to pm and the coffee shop is open 0am to 4pm. newport wetlands, is located on west nash road, newport np 2Z.

BEGINNErS’ BIrD IDENtIFICatION: SUMMEr MIGraNtS Saturday 5th 10am – 12pm this time of year is fantastic for birdwatching as we welcome migrants from africa to our shores, but if you muddle your martins or you’re wobbly on your warblers then this is the event for you. whether you enjoy just watching the birds in your garden, out and about in the countryside or on nature reserves, this workshop is a great way to get started. adult event: £.0 nonmembers; £3 rsp members. ooking essential.


DaWNCHOrUS DaY Sunday 6th 5.15am – 7.30am get up with the larks to listen to the dawn chorus and find out which species each song belongs to. leader: darryl spittle, professional ornithologist. eet at newport wetlands car park. free event.


WILDLIFE PHOtOGraPHY – Intermediate level Sunday 13th 1pm – 3pm if you took part in our wildlife photography for eginners workshop then this is the next step to photographic success in the field. Venture out onto the reserve with an experienced wildlife photographer from the rsp to take your own pictures before heading back indoors to learn about computer manipulation and editing processes. please bring your own camera and a laptop if you have one – a limited number of laptops will be available to borrow if you don’t have one. adult event: £.0 nonmembers; £3 rsp members. ooking essential.


BrILLIaNt BUttErFLIES Saturday 19th – 1pm to 3pm as part of utterfly onservation’s save ur utterflies week, you can take part in a butterfly walk to discover and record the butterflies that call newport wetlands home, take part in sweep netting to see which butterflies live in the long grass and make your own butterfly feeder to take home. hildren’s event: £3.0 nonmember; £2 rsp members. ooking essential.

ALSO - NEWPOrt WEtLaNDS OPEN DaY Sunday 8th July 11.00am-4.00pm Join us for a free day of exciting activities at newport wetlands nature reserve. free entry and car parking there will be a range of stalls including swan rescue, hedgehog helpline and the newport edieval ship, along with numerous displays, children’s activities such as pond dipping, and refreshments.
