THEWALES COAST PATH HAS BEEN
DEVELOPED BY THE WELSH GOVERNMENT IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE COUNTRYSIDE COUNCIL FORWALES, LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND NATIONAL PARKS.

he path, which creates a continuous walking route around the whole of the Welsh Coastline, will be officially open for walking this May. To celebrate the opening of the path through Newport, a ‘City to Sea’ walk has been organised by Newport City Council’s Green Services and everyone is welcome to come along and join in.

continue across footpaths and footbridges through Gwent Wildlife Trust’s Solutia Meadows Nature Reserve, finishing at the coast at East Usk Lighthouse at around 1pm.
Minister John Griffiths will set us off at 11am beside the Newport Transporter Bridge. The route will follow footpaths along the banks of the River Usk, and then footbridges
Please see information below to ensure the route is suitable for you. • City to sea walk • start: Transporter Bridge at 11am (Stephenson Street approach) • finish: east Usk Lighthouse, Newport Wetlands at 1pm • Distance: 8km • Graded: Moderate: walk will include some slopes, stiles, steps and uneven ground to negotiate
• Parking: Parking is available at two locations; a) Road side parking along Stephenson Street, transport will be provided to ferry walkers back to their cars after the walk. b) Newport Wetlands Car Park - transport will be provided to take you to the start point, please ensure you park leaving enough time to be taken to the start point by 11am.
• Health & safety - The safety of anyone attending this event is of the utmost importance. However, accidents can happen and people attending this walk do so at their own risk. Any children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Any vehicles left unattended are left at the owner’s risk.
• Dogs - If dogs are brought along to this walk they must be kept on leads at all times and under close control always. Please note dog restrictions are in place in certain areas of the Newport Wetland Reserve.
