Scenically located at the family’s Croes-Carn- Einion Farm in Bassaleg, this 400-year-old converted milking parlour is bursting with rustic charm. Head chef Helen’s passion for cooking has gained a reputation for being one of the best chef’s in the area, with her special exotic signature dishes such as zebra, ostrich, and crocodile to name but a few. Ingredients are always fresh, bought daily and selected on quality not budget. All dietary needs are catered for – from vegetarians to allergy sufferers – and there is a well-balanced children’s menu as well as an early bird menu too. One of the city’s friendliest locals, the Lyceum Tavern on Malpas Road is well-known for its great, homemade food. With bar meals and snacks starting at just £1.75, food is served from Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 2pm and 5.30pm to 9pm. The award-winning Sunday lunch is well worth the visit alone. At just £6.50 you can enjoy tasty homemade roasties with fresh veg and succulent meats with the most beautiful gravy in town. Booking is highly recommended for Sunday lunch, which is served from 12pm to 3pm.

Greenmeadow Golf Club in Croesyceiliog welcomes anybody and everybody to its lovely restaurant, which is open pretty much all day, every day. Serving up a multitude of menus, there’s something for every appetite and taste. From light bites such as paninis and baguettes, to a full lunchtime menu featuring hearty fillers such as curry and homemade steak and ale pie, Greenmeadow Golf Club is great at any time of the day – and perfect for even the fussiest of diners. By evening it serves up a delicious a la carte menu, and Sundays sees the restaurant bustling when lunch is served. The Sunday lunch is so popular that it’s often booked out by the end of Monday, so it goes without saying that booking is highly recommended.
