2012 Winter Wrap-Up
From the FE Editor: Some know it as TEF (Tampa Equestrian Festival) and the first week is finished (The Tampa Bay Classic) . The Tampa series begins as WEF winds down and is typically supported by Floridians as well as out of state exhibitors looking for a change of scenery after the long run at WEF or the next rated show following the end of HITS Ocala. I've compiled some recent press releases, courtesy of Phelps Media, written by Kendall Bierer, Elizabeth Vieira & Kenneth Kraus to summarize some highlights up to the point of printing the April issue. Hope to see lots of faces at this year's American Invitational!

is a quick mare, and if I open her up and let her go she is usually pretty fast. Today she proved to be the fastest.” Dello Joio also posted a second double-clear effort aboard Notre Star de la Nutria, owned by La Nutria of Wellington, FL, taking the third place honors. Aaron Vale and Honeyland’s Douglasan, owned by Doug’s Crew of Morriston, FL, had the fastest fourfault time, breaking the beam at 36.211 seconds. Vorst with Michael Morrissey in the irons was awarded the fifth place ribbon for their efforts in the Open Jumpers. “My family has been coming to Tampa forever. It is a great show and although I haven’t been here in a couple years, I decided to get out of Wellington and have a nice change of pace. They do a fantastic job here, the location is perfect, the footing feels good and the courses are great, Michel does a wonderful job,” Dello Joio described.

obstacles, using a different method to succeed—conservancy. The duo stayed controlled and clean stopping the clock at a moderate 41.19 seconds landing them in 3rd. Nicholas Dello Joio and Notre Star de la Nutria, owned by La Nutria of Wellington, FL, had the fastest four-fault total with a time of 34.58 seconds, earning the fourth place award for their efforts. Ashe-Cawley and Carissimo followed a similar route to Covert-Lawrence, being both conservative and yet mindful of the everracing timer. They took the first three obstacles carefully, making wider turns in the beginning to ensure accuracy, but after landing from the liverpool, Ashe-Cawley took the opportunity to open Carissimo’s stride and start the race against the clock. Leaving all rails in their cups, the pair crossed the finish at 35.21 seconds. The final rider to take his turn at the short course was Jonathan McCrea and Twisther. Although they were able to leave all rails in place, their time of 36.37 seconds was only good enough for the second place.

Dello Joio and Geledimar Z, owned by Wembley Farms, Inc. of Wellington, FL, were up for the morning’s challenge. The pair also jumped clean, and since they opted for all inside turns and used a speedy pace to their advantage, they beat McCrea’s time by nearly three seconds, crossing the finish line at 31.764 seconds and earning the blue. “I wanted my horses to be ready for this weekend and the upcoming Grand Prix events,” Dello Joio explained. “Geledimar Z

A field of 18 riders showed in the Covered Arena over Michel Vaillancourt’s first round course. It began with a large oxer to a vertical and a sharp right turn to a triple bar leading to a vertical, followed by an oxervertical- vertical triple combination. (Leslie) Howard and Utah were the first to compete over the final test, and a sharp turn to the second obstacle caused an unlucky rail eventually earning the pair the fifth place for their four-fault round and time of 34.85 seconds. Margie Engle of Wellington, FL (on Pauly Du Bruel) also lowered the liverpool and stopped the clock in 36.24 seconds to take the sixth place prize, followed by Megan Edrick & Cadence with 37.24.

Mary Eufemia and MJ had an exceptional week earning the tri-color in the 35 and Over Amateur Hunters, and Lynn Seithel took top ribbons in the 3’3 Amateur Owner division. Competition was fierce, but Alex Adelson and Reeva II couldn’t be stopped, as they captured the 18-35 Amateur Hunter division championship. Adelson and Reeva II came out on top with stellar form over the fences and a distinguishable forward stride through the twists and turns of the handy round. Adelson, under the direction of Mathew Morrissey, generated two winning courses, as well as a second place finish in the under saddle.
“I thought that my rounds went really well. My horse is on it today. Both rounds were nice and smooth, and I do think that I could have chosen to do some inside turns in the
