Summer Lovin'
I’m back! As you might remember, I was asked to be the interim editor for last year’s summer issue while Jenny Fauser was on maternity leave. Well, I guess they like me (they really like me!), as they asked me to once again take the reins when Jenny decided to pursue other projects. (Never fear; Jenny will still be contributing to PLAYGROUND with her sassy writing.)
The summer issue is near and dear to my heart, as it focuses on travel. My husband, Mike, and I never turn down an opportunity to travel with
our kids (Sofi a, 6, and Jake, 16). Sure, I’ve been puked on during fl ights (twice, actually), had to deal with hoisting a frightened toddler off of a water taxi in Venice, Italy, and had sleepless nights dealing with altitude sickness in Colorado (see page 46). But I’ve also skied black diamonds with my son (well, he skied; I prayed), rode the merry-go-round in Piazza D'Azeglio in Florence, Italy, with my daughter and snuggled up to my husband while watching Wicked in New York City. Life is about experiences — good and bad.
Another passion of mine? Fashion! I am super psyched to introduce a new fashion section called PLAYing Dress-Up. Why should the kiddos have all the fun? We mommies need some style inspiration of our own. Each issue, one lucky reader mom will model three outfi ts (styled by yours truly) that take minimal effort but amp up the chicness level. Check out our fi rst victim (er ... model), Suzi McClain of Clermont, on page 36.
For those of you who are spending most of the summer in town, the Cultural Summer Camp Guide (page 50) is a must-read. We've got all the "deets" on Central Florida summer camps that are sure to keep your little ones entertained and stimulated. Most of these camps fi ll up fast, so get your kids signed up right away! Meet with many of the camps' representatives in person at the fourth annual PLAYGROUND Music & Arts Fest, on May 6 from noon to 5 p.m. Come PLAY with us!
Ciao!
Birth Announcement by Amy Smith, of course!

Yep, that's me (on the left), helping our reader Suzi McClain sass it up for a photoshoot. Want to be a featured mom? Send your picture to

Big brother, Kai (age 6), has been a great help fetching pacifi ers and smothering his "sissy" with kisses.
