Half Man Half Biscuit
Four of the best at the Oxford O2 Academy....
Death in Vegas Tuesday May 15
Death In Vegas, one of the most exciting and unique acts to emerge from the 90s UK dance scene, makes a stealthy return. The Mercury Prize nominated twosome have got us lot at The Ocelot excited about this gig as ‘Dirge’ still remains one of our favourite tracks. It all starts at 7pm
Upstairs feat Admiral Fallow Saturday May 19
Glaswegian band Admiral Fallow, touted as one of the indie bands to watch in 2012, will be headlining this particular ‘Upstairs’ night organised by BBC Introducing. The band, who will be showcasing some stuff from their forthcoming second album, will be joined by Adam Barnes, The Old Grinding Young, The Yarns and Mariana Magnavita.
The Skatalites Saturday May 26
Jamaican legends The Skatalites will be supported by The Dubwisers. The Skatalites played initially between 1963 and 1965, and recorded many of their best known songs in the period, including "Guns of Navarone". They also played on records by Prince Buster and backed many other Jamaican artists who recorded during that period. Half Man Half Biscuit Thursday May 31
I think I dreamt about a half man half biscuit last night but maybe I’ve just got my subconscious confused with this rather special band. We like these guys and not only because of the brilliant name but because they’re blessed with a magical ability to make the most jaded of listeners fall back in love with music again.

Some musical tips from your local independent record shop in Marlborough! A few albums that need to be heard. Reviews written by Samuel Robinson.
TOM WILLIAMS & THE BOAT – TEENAGE BLOOD (OOOO) There’s a darker, meaner edge to the nu-folk narratives of Teenage Blood. Depicting doomed love from up-tempo anticipation to wistful regret and even raw anguish (something Williams as a vocalist is very adept at portraying) it builds to a bittersweet denouement. Out Now ALABAMA SHAKES – BOYS AND GIRLS (OOO) The debut from the much-vaunted Alabama Shakes allows singer Brittany Howard’s powerful,
Joplinesque vocals to take centre-stage, accompanied by a laidback groove in a
collection that mixes elements of gospel, soul and southern rock. Out Now
DR. JOHN – LOCKED DOWN
(OOOOO) Locked Down sees the 71 year old bluesman collaborating with labelmate Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, who as well as lending his guitar chops to the album also produces it, adding a freshness
and attack to the legendary pianist’s trademark grooves. Out Now JACK WHITE – BLUNDERBUSS (OOOO) White’s maiden solo outing- after countless bands, side projects and, perhaps most tellingly for this album’s tone, a divorce (though his ex-wife sings on several tracks)- is a suitably eccentric affair, with electric piano vamping intercut by fiddly, prog guitar runs and sprinklings of art-rock and Americana. The customary big riffs are used sparingly but effectively. Out Now
