t’s all a big misunderstanding that
will be cleared up when this goes to court,” says Jolly Walia, owner of Jolly’s Valero, of the “buy bust” and three arrests that took place last Friday afternoon, April 13, 2012. The convenience store
is located at 401 West Commerce Street in Fairfield, Texas on the southwest corner of Highways 84 and 75. A little after lunch time, an undercover agent with
the Freestone County Sheriff’s office entered the establishment and asked to purchase one of two potpourri products, called Einstein or Megabitch (pictured at right), which, according to Chief Deputy Sheriff Don Anderson, contains a chemical substance equivalent to synthetic marijuana, a known ingredient found in other potpourri products such as K2, Spice-99, or Silvia. Sour Gas Well:
Location Interferes with School’s Property, City’s Future I-45 Exit

e just recently found out there is a
possibility of a well pipeline of sour gas being built on our property, but we were never notified,” explains Fairfield Independent School District Superintendent Katie Ryan at the Fairfield City Council meeting held Tuesday, April 10, 2012. The pipeline in question
is the Watson Williford #1 Pipeline to be drilled by Valence Operating one mile
south of Jack In The Box along Interstate 45 near Church Street. Valence was waiting on one last permit approval by the City, has laid its pad for the well and was ready to start drilling when FISD realized the well would be placed almost dead center on FISD land. t’s Parade time again! 2012 Freestone county fair
theme is “Ridin’ Rockin’ and Livestockin’” at the Freestone County Fair and Rodeo. The 2012 Freestone County
Fair parade set for Monday, June 11, 2012 as the kickoff for the fair week. Parade chairman Vanessa Smith, who is coordinating the event with daughters Michelle Bottoms and Lisa Schick, reports that there were 175 entries last year and expects to easily reach that number again. is the “Spirit of Freestone Award,” a traveling trophy currently held by The City of Fairfield (SMC Home Health and Incommns bank were prior winners ). This trophy is awarded to the local
organization or business that best represents or interprets the theme. Prizes of $50 each will be
given to entries denoting the most creative, most entertaining and most beautiful. The parade each year
contains a little bit of everything, floats, antique vehicles, marching bands, fire trucks, Miss Freestone County and Miss Teen Freestone County pageant contestants, bicycles, motorcycles and horses. The parade is slated for a 7 p.m. start. Entries must be lined up in assigned spaces by 6:00 p.m.

Death Ruled Accidental
I
n a follow-up story in the April 3, 2012 edition of The
“Times,” ‘Pedestrian Killed on Hwy 84,’ the Freestone Sheriff’s Department has finished their investigation and concluded that Dustin Porter, who lost his life on March 30, 2012, did not commit suicide. “It was a tragic accident,” stated Freestone County Chief Deputy Sheriff Don Anderson. Mr. Porter was killed on Highway 84 near the Cedar Grove RV Park just outside of Fairfield around 11:24 p.m. He was struck by a vehicle while apparently crossing the highway. Mary McDonald reporting.
