LOCAL MUSIC /// He’s one of the greatest songwriters of all time, the voice of a generation, and this year, the iconic Bob Dylan turns 71. To celebrate Dylan’s 40-year music career, Nicholas James Thomasma and the Bandwagon, along with several more artists, will be pay- ing tribute to the legendary song and dance man at Founders Brewing Co. For this year’s Bob Dylan Tribute, Nicholas James and the Bandwagon will be performing Dylan’s 1976 album Desire, with additional performances from The Turnips, Big Dudee Roo, Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellies, Into the West and Tom DeVries of the Blue Water Ramblers. Admission for the show is $5 for the 21-and-up show.


LINEUPS /// T-Rex Fest, The Pyramid Scheme’s first outdoor summer music and beer festival, recently announced its June 16 lineup. Pinback, dead prez, El Ten Eleven, The Men, Jon Connor, Frontier Ruckus and Leslie & The LYs will bring a knock-out mix of rap, rock and post punk to Grand Rapids … Frederick Meijer Gardens is bringing a host of big names for its summer concert series—25 names, to be precise. Some of our favorite picks include Andrew Bird (July 15), Fiona Apple (July 9), Rufus Wainwright (July 1), Al Green (June 18) and Jimmy Cliff (June 13).


FESTIVALS/// Holland’s Tulip Time Festival kicks off May 5 and runs through May 12. The festival began in 1929 as a way to commemorate the area’s Dutch heritage. That year, the city planted its first crop of 100,000 iconic tulips, and now boasts over six million of the flowers. Enjoy Dutch delicacies like Saucijzenbroodjes (pigs in a blanket) while touring Windmill Island, which features the only authentic operating Dutch windmill in the U.S. The festival will also include three parades, fireworks, a carnival, concerts and

NATIONAL CD RELEASES /// Tenacious D is back and releasing its third studio album, Rize of the Fenix, on May 15. Touted as “the greatest album recorded by anyone, ever,” Jack Black and Kyle Gass once again team up with Dave Grohl on drums … Anti-folk favorite Regina Spektor releases What We Saw From the Cheap Seats on May 29 and will be on tour with Tom Petty through the month … Shock-rocker Marilyn Manson is back with his tenth studio album, Born Villain. Out May 1, it will feature a heavier tone with some blues influence … Despite his recent health complications, John Mayer will release the postponed Born and Raised on May 22, the singer’s fifth record … Other notable re- leases: Silversun Pickups (May 8), Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (May 29), Sigur Ros (May 29).
