a doctor practicing in one country, crosses the border looking for answers to her grandfather’s death. Memories of Natalia’s childhood with him and his wife, a Muslim woman, haunt her as she remembers their time together. Through fl ashbacks, Obreht brings home the horror of war and its aftermath.
