There’s nothing like a vintage fedora to bring a

touch of old-school Saville Row to your look

Put a rock on it: imagine that sparkler on your hand right now...

“We find ourselves dripping with fabulous jewels from various decades”

– but we especially love the accessories on offer. A smorgasbord of Georgian, Victorian,

Edwardian, Art Deco, Art Nouveau and retro jewellery pieces fill the shop’s glass display cases and shelves, and buyers are encouraged to don a mix of time periods. Ten minutes in and we find ourselves dripping with fabulous jewels from various decades – cameo ring on the left hand, an Art Deco wedding band on the other, with a Victorian rock crystal necklace and a heart-shaped pendant draped around the neck – it’s hard to say no to pieces that look so good and are built to last. We spy a pair of Ray-Ban aviators from the 70s next to a statement Christian Dior necklace. An amazing selection of ladies’ handbags – including some made with alligator and snakeskin – line the walls above a variety of leather boots and brogues. Old trunks are stacked on top of one another near the entrance, and everywhere you look you’ll spot a swoon-worthy object that you’re sure will give your style more character. It’s cash-only here so make sure to hit the cashpoint beforehand.

Best Before Aimed at the thriving student population of the city, Best Before strives to keep its prices low and its offering narrowed down to a laid-back, youthful style. A blaring playlist of funky beats gives the place an upbeat social feel, and club night posters adorn the white walls. It’s a no-brainer that this is where youngsters congregate when in search of a cool outfit to impress their peers on a night out. We find out that anything denim is huge, whether it’s jackets, shirts or jeans

of varying lengths and colours. There’s an entire rack dedicated to high-waisted denim shorts for girls, which we’re told is one of the most popular items. High- top Jordans are big for the boys, while printed leggings and flamboyant jackets of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air variety fly off the shelves. There’s an excellent selection of ironic graphic tees and jumpers next to collegiate cardigans and letterman jackets. If you’re in the mood to revisit your youth, this shop is it. Just remember to go and brush your shoulders off (wise words from Jay Z) when you walk out with your new kicks. • 7-9 Baldwin Street, 07534 966053
