Five Russian opera stars performing in Saltburn
Back by popular demand, The Hermitage Ensemble is returning to Saltburn from St Petersburg after pleas from local people following their sell-out performances. After packed performances to adoring Saltburn
crowds in recent years, The Hermitage Ensemble are returning to the area on May 6th with a magnificent new concert. The Ensemble recreates Russian traditions and brings their music closer to western people. The program is a mix of haunting liturgical motets,
psalms and contagious folk songs. The famous Russian bass voices are not to be missed – their low registers have a moving, penetrating depth, well below those of basses of different nationalities. Jeanette Wainwright and the 100 Voices have been
invited to perform with the Russian opera stars – they will be adding their own special charm to the concert with renditions of Jerusalem and I’ve got you under my skin. Jeanette said: “This is an incredible opportunity for
my students. We feel so honoured to have the chance to perform with such an astonishing group of internationally acclaimed opera singers.” Here’s how one of Europe’s top opera critics
described the Russian singers: “The air vibrates with the powerful volume of the male Russian voices. Anyone who has not discovered what the Russian soul is – can feel it
now – with their own skin.” The concert will be at Saltburn Methodist Church,
Sunday, 6th May at 7.30pm (doors open 7pm). Tickets £7.50 from Saltburn Health Foods, Tel: 01287 624622 or on the door.
4 People Not Profit ‘Fix the World’
4 People Not Profit’s monthly film night ‘Open your mind’ returns with one of the funniest films that shows up the abuse and hypocrisy of current global corporations, The Yes Men fix The World. The film will be screened as usual upstairs in
The Marine, Saltburn and will be on Thursday, 17th of May. Doors will open at 7pm and the film starts at 7.30pm. The Yes Men Fix The World is a screwball true
story about two crazy political activists who, posing as top executives of giant corporations, lie their way into big business conferences and pull off the world’s most outrageous pranks. From New Orleans to Delhi to New York City,
armed with little more than cheap thrift store suits, The Yes Men manage to squeeze raucous comedy out of all the ways that corporate greed is destroying the planet. “It shines with pure wit and originality” –
Newsweek. “Comedic viligante justice, media-savvy pie to
the face” – USA Today. So tell all your friends and family to come
down to what is sure to be one of the funniest Open your mind film nights we have done. And for once get to see Greedy corporations getting screwed over instead of them screwing us over!
