mer activities—for kids and parents alike—is a trip to the Discovery Center of Idaho (DCI) in Boise. DCI is interactive, with exhibits and educational programs that help kids develop an

interest in science, technology, engineering, and math. The center presents these subjects in a way that makes learning fun for kids of all ages, in the hope that a hands-on introduc- tion will inspire a lifelong love of these disciplines. And seriously, who could create a seven-foot tornado and not fall in love? In addition to exhibits, DCI offers classes (Codes or Chemistry, anyone?), camps

(a whole camp dedicated to fireworks??? I’m in!), and clubs (Astronomy and Robotics). There’s even a Young Discoverers preschool program where little tykes learn about things like diamonds, animal babies, and seasons. And if mom and dad need a little brain-stretch- ing, DCI offers adult nights where the older crowd can gain hands-on appreciation of how science and technology can enhance their lives. (A recent Adult Night explored the science of brewing beer!) DCI is a nonprofit organization that depends on memberships, donations, and foun-

dation and corporate sponsorships to keep its doors open. It receives less than 3 percent of its revenue from government sources, and relies on donations for about half of its operat- ing expenses. If you would like to support DCI, monetary contributions are always appreci- ated, but you may also be able to help fulfill some of their other needs.
