New youth music centre hits the right note
new state-of-the-art facility for all young people in Herts to learn skills, including sound production and engineering, film-making, animation and digital photography, has opened in Watford.
A Te Hertfordshire County Council Youth Connexions
Music and Media Studio is based in Lower High Street, Watford.
Te facility is staffed by youth workers and technicians who support young people aged 13 to 19, and up to 25 if they have a learning difficulty or disability, helping them to fulfil their potential.
It has been designed by young people and specialist contractors and includes a professional music and video recording studio, production suite and a green screen studio.
‘The media studio allows young people to develop new skills, whether for their own enjoyment and achievement or to go on to work in the creative industries’
Te facility is open to all young people regardless of ability and no previous experience is needed.
As well as improving their skills, the young people also
receive personal support to deal with any challenges which they may face.
Music and media are used to explore issues such as
relationships, confidence, healthy living, self-esteem and attitudes to drugs and alcohol.
Andrew Simmons, Deputy Director of Services for Children and Young People at Hertfordshire County Council, said: “Te media studio allows young people to develop new skills, whether for their own enjoyment and achievement or to go on to work in the creative industries.
“In addition to the first class training they provide, the
youth workers also provide personal support during a time of transition for young people.”
