Anger over MP’s secret meeting
local group campaigning against a new Rail Freight facility being built on Radlett Airfield are furious at revelations of a recent meeting held in secret.

STRiFE (Stop the Rail Freight Exchange) is a group of local residents set up to fight the plan by Helioslough to develop a Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI) in Park Street.
Te group has spoken of its shock and anger at revelations that the Transport Minister, Teresa Villiers, met with Helioslough lobbyist Simon Hoare and accepted a document in support of the scheme.

Te action group says the meeting was unacceptable because it took place while Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government was re- determining the Rail Freight planning appeal.

STRiFE’s legal advisers have written to the Department
for Communities and Local Government to ask for details of all meetings between Helioslough and its representatives with government ministers and their advisers, together with copies of the written communications.
A STRiFE spokesman said: “Our own MPs were turned
down for a meeting with ministers. It seems that they met with one side and not the other and that is what we are so outraged about. We’ve written a letter to the ministers asking for the document to be made public and whether they have seen anyone else as well as a series of other questions. We are awaiting a reply.”
Ms Villiers did not respond to My Radlett & Shenley News’ inquiries.
