Henry Moore Wins X-Country Competition - Fourth Time in a Row!

Henry Moore Primary School has enjoyed another year of success by winning the Harlow Schools Cross Country Competition for the fourth year in a row! With six of the teams achieving fi rst position and two coming second, the children were thrilled when the six winning groups qualifi ed for The Essex Cross Country fi nals in Southend. The team’s suc- cess can be attributed to outstanding commitment to training and unbeatable sporting spirit amongst all members of the Cross Country team and the schools Cross Country Club.

On the 24th February 2012, the Harlow Cross Country Competition took place at Paringdon Sports Centre. All the children had arrived; it was time to start the races!

SOUTHEND ESSEX FINALS

After a breathtaking cross country event at Paring- don Sports centre, we then took part in the enthrall- ing Essex County Final. Some exceptional runners from our school attended and many had great results! (Joseph Chadd Year 6)

We had an extremely enjoyable time at Cross Coun- try. The weather wasn’t great but after we began running, our bodies quickly warmed up. Our race took place in Southend at 1.45pm. (Lee Palmer & Josh Pike Year 6)

First up were the Year 3 boys followed by the girls. Oliver Carter came fi rst, followed closely by Alfi e Collier. (Shannon Smith Year 6)

Other outstanding performances came from Year 3’s MacKenzie Cranfi eld (1st) and Ellen Savage (2nd).

The Year 4 Team was equally as successful, with Charlie Powell winning the race followed closely by Johnny Coburn in second place. The girls produced a perfect score with Charlotte Pratt running a bril- liant fi rst followed by Leila Meldre (2nd), Natasha Wickens (3rd) and Savanna Sirkett (4th).

Upper KS2 was well presented in Year 5, with strong performances from Alfi e Head (6th), Katie Coles (4th) and Abbie Dosseter (5th). Year 6 also enjoyed success with Claudia Andrews winning the Year 6 girls race and Ben Collier coming third and Lee Palmer (7th) in a very tough Year 6 Boys race.

Despite horrendous weather, we had a fantastic day at Southend with notable performances from Claudia Andrews (7th Year 6 Girls), Ben Collier (7th Year 6 Boys) and MacKenzie Cranfi eld (7th Year 3 Girls). We were all extremely proud of Charlie Powell (Year 4) who earned himself a silver medal, with an outstanding run showing he is a talent to be watched in the future.

I would like to thank all the children who attended Cross Country Club regularly, supporting and en- couraging each other across the year groups. Fur- thermore, thanks to all the parents who supported the children at the events, particularly at Southend battling through harsh conditions preventing the Gazebo from being blown away! And fi nally to Mrs Moss, Miss Bennett and Mr Balboni for all their help running the Cross Country Club and making it such a success! (Gina Bailey Year 6 Teacher)
