potterstreetprimaryschool New Head Teacher Arrives At School

Can you remember your fi rst day at school? Were you nervous, a little bit scared even? I’m unlikely to forget my fi rst day as the new Headteacher at Potter Street Primary. The warm welcome from staff and children quickly put me at ease, and by break time I already felt part of the team!

My name is Mr West, and it’s my privilege to lead the school from the summer term onwards. When I was a pupil, my teach- ers inspired me to become an engineer, a career I loved. But I secretly had my eye on their job, so when an opportunity came to leave IT and go into the classroom I jumped at it – and never looked back. The last ten years teaching in London, and more recently Brentwood, have been fantastic, but I’m looking forward now to working in my home town.

So to say I’m excited about the future at Potter Street is an understatement. Yet there is much to do: our children need to improve their reading, writing and maths skills, fast. We need to challenge them to ask questions, investigate and problem- solve. With help from the community, our school can rise up to meet new Ofsted expectations. And as we aim higher, we’ll inspire our children to become the next generation of nurses, doctors, writers, de- signers, engineers, Headteachers...
