Welcome to the Clandestine Cake Club With over 90 clubs in the UK and overseas where we bake, eat and talk about cake. History
Founded by Lynn Hill in the summer of 2010 the fi rst CCC event was held on December 11th 2010 in Leeds. “It was a need to get more people together over Tea and Cake, without having to do all the baking myself. The people can do the baking and they can invite a guest. It was that simple.”
And the Rules As with all clubs there are rules and CCC is no exception: No Cupcakes, Muffi ns, Brownies, Pies or Tart. It’s all about Cake!
Church Langley resident Jessie Ross has a passion for baking, so much so that when she heard about the Clandestine Cake Club (CCC) she just had to get involved. Here she tells us all about how she became involved and gives details of Harlow’s fi rst CCC meeting.
Baking has become so popular lately, it seems like the whole country has caught the baking bug! I love baking for friends and family and bake at every opportunity, when I heard about the Clandestine Cake Club I thought what a lovely idea for people who love baking to meet up over cake, chat, swap ideas and recipes and make new friends! I had looked via the CCC website for a club in the area but there wasn't any clubs close enough which held weekend meetings, so I thought why not start a Harlow CCC so members can bake, eat and talk about cake!
The format of CCC events - Any baker interested needs to fi nd a CCC meeting close to them; all events are listed on the website, the main rules of what to bake are no cupcakes, muffi ns, brownies, pies or tart. It’s all about Cake. Each meeting has a theme so Bakers need to contact the meeting organiser to join, they also need to decide what to bake. All places for the event are booked in advance, each baker can bring a guest if they wish, the location is kept a secret until nearer to the event, on the day bakers arrive with their cake (and guest), buy refreshments from the host/venue, eat cake and get to know each other. Members can also take any left over cake home with them.
The Harlow CCC is being held on Saturday 9th June at 2pm, location to be confi rmed to all members closer to the time - more information can be found via the CCC website: http://clandestinecakeclub.
