PUBLISHER'S LETTER ROBYN JESSON
Vancouver might be best known for its dazzling natural beauty, but capturing headlines these days are our thriving businesses, with labels such as “Silicon Valley North” and “Hollywood North”—referring to the technology and film/tv industries respectively—commonly tossed around for our city.
Our annual business issue showcases major players in these industries, including Ryan Holmes of Hootsuite,
a social media management application that recently attracted a $20 million investment from OMERS. We also catch up with Mary Zilba—star of Te Real Housewives of Vancouver, which aired last month as the highest-rated premiere on Slice and the most watched Real Housewives series premiere—and Kirk Caouette whose film Hit ‘n Strum led the 2012 Canadian Film Festi- val with multiple awards.
Gracing our cover of this business issue is a man whose level of success in the publishing world is unparalleled in Western Canada. President and CEO of Canada Wide Media Peter Legge not only oversees nearly 50 publications, he has also become a bestselling author and one of North America’s top public speakers. His optimism, integrity, belief in hard work and passion for life were more than evident when we sat down in his Burnaby office for the interview. Along with his dedication to philanthropy and his love for family, it would have been impossible to leave that interview without feeling inspired.
We hope the business success stories, innovations and expert ideas inside this issue leave you feeling inspired!

Hello, I wanted to thank you for publishing the piece on earthquake safety. Even though we’ve been told for years that we’re overdue for “the big one”, very few people are actually prepared for the day it could finally arrive. Investing in an earthquake survival kit is such a simple step that could save a life.
Keep getting the word out there! Susan H.
Loved the story from Riaz Menghi about his African adventure! It’s always interesting to catch a glimpse into the real lives of media personalities— it sure lends a completely different perspective.
Cheers, - J
Trevor Linden is truly a stand-up guy! I had the pleasure of meeting him the day you were doing the photo shoot at Club 16 out in Coquitlam, and was blown away by how laid back and friendly he was. As someone that really admired his hockey career, it’s great to see him finding success in other avenues and staying true to who he is.
Great feature story! - Charlie
CONGRATULATIONS to Kendal Kendrick for winning the two night stay at the beautiful, oceanfront Black Rock Resort!
