Sine Anahita,’92 is currently Associate Professor of Sociology and Women’s & Gender Studies and Associate Director of Northern Studies at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Her most recent research project analyzes homoerotics in Alaska’s gold rush. Four years ago she took up the fiddle and enjoys playing old time music with others on the edge of Alaska’s wilderness.
P. Nolan Belk, Graduate Certificate ’10 is lead instructor of English at Wilkes Community College. He recently published a review of Peter Y. Paik’s, From Utopia to Apocalypse: Science Fiction and the Politics of Catastrophe. He has also delivered two conference presentations addressing his dissertation topic, the rhetoric of feminist science fiction in the 1970s; one at Renovation, the 69th Annual World Science Fiction Convention, and one at the 2011 Feminisms and Rhetorics Conference.
Dakia Davis, BA ’08 is currently attending Howard University to pursue her Master of Social Work. She is the Clinical Master of Social Work intern in the community health center. Dakia also was accepted into the School of Social Work alternative spring break trip to South Africa and the Front Line Leaders Academy, a project of the People for the American Way Foundation’s Young People For (YP4) program.
Elijah Adiv Edelman, BA Minor ’06 is an instructor of Anthropology and American Studies in Washington, DC. He has also biked across the country (San Francisco, CA to Washington, DC), co-founded a non-profit, and published book chapters.
Amy Gerald, Graduate Certificate ’03 is an Assistant Professor of English at Winthrop University. Since graduating in 2003 she has taught as an adjunct in English and Women’s Studies at UNCG and UNCC.
Elissa Ewalt Ghosh, BA Minor ’94 earned her master’s degree in Film and Video Production and has since worked on many feature films and television productions including an Academy Award-nominated documentary short. Transitioning from production to the business side of television, Elissa is now business affairs manager for a television production company in Washington, DC. She lives in the Washington area with her husband and 2 ½ year old twins.
Ashley Green, MA ’11 is working in Gilroy, CA for the Community Media Access Partnership. She is also serving in Americorps VISTA for one year. Ashley looks forward to working on projects which help community members access and produce local media and information networks.
Carrie Hart, MA ’11 is the Coordinator for Violence Prevention and Response at the Office of Student Life at Elon University.

Christie Haugh, BS ’11 is health center manager at Planned Parenthood Health Systems, Inc. in Greensboro, NC. She also spent two weeks volunteering in Cartago, Costa Rica and helped out at an HIV/AIDS home called Hogar Nuestra Senora de La Esperanza (Home of Our Lady of Hope).
Ashlea Hitchcock, Graduate Certificate ’10 is the Emily K Center-Programming and Partnerships Coordinator in Durham, NC. Through this work, she provides college access programming for low-income students. Her current job duties include writing grants, evaluating the K-College model, and overseeing programming for 11th and 12th grade students. Ashlea also had the opportunity to present research from her WGS independent study at the 2011 American Educational Research Association conference in New Orleans, LA.
Caroline Hughes, BA ’11 is front desk and program assistant at International Student Center Youth Hostel in New York, NY. She also worked as a cook this past summer in a camp in the Adirondack Mountains. Caroline professes that she is busy pretending to be a “New Yorker” and meeting people from around the world.
Brandi Ledesma-Burney, BA ’05 is a Master of Science in Social Work Student and Web-Portal Coordinator at Columbia University in New York, NY. She currently has concentrations in Social Enterprise Administration and Contemporary Social Issues.
Casey A. Barrio Minton, Graduate Certificate ’05 is Associate Professor of Counseling and Counseling Program Coordinator at the University of North Texas. She has published a number of journal articles and book chapters regarding crisis intervention and counselor preparation. Casey serves as the President of Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International.
Amy Smith, Graduate Certificate ’05 received her PhD in Communication Studies from Bowling Green State University in 2008. She is currently teaching at Salem State University in the Theater and Speech Communications Department.
Ashlyn Gollehon Swartout, Graduate Certificate ’10 is a visiting lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Georgia State University in Atlanta.
Lynn W. Zimmerman, Graduate Certificate ’02 is teaching educational foundations courses and English as a Second Language licensure courses in the School of Education at Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, IN. During 2011-2012 she taught courses in Intercultural Communication at Tischner European University in Krakow, Poland.
