Business Preserve memories at Paper Vineyard

PAPER TRAILS: Adriana Granado offers local scrapbookers everything they need to chronicle their lives with style. Paper Vineyard carries more than 600 colors of stock card, adhesive-backed and embossed paper and lots of “bling and glitter.” Submitted photo

BY K. M. LANG Gone are the oversized scrapbooks

with yellow tape holding school papers and preschool drawings in place. Forget the sticky pages with ticket stubs and photographs displayed under clear plastic sheets. Scrapbooking has evolved, and while it’s no longer the hobby our grandmothers knew, its purpose – to mark life’s special moments – remains. Since opening Chandler’s Paper

Vineyard in 2008, owner Adriana Granado has done her best to ensure local paper crafters have what they need to memorialize those special times beautifully and within budget. “I think scrapbooking has changed

in that there’s a lot more options,” explains the Kempton Crossing resident. “They’re 3-D. They’re glitter.

They’re embossed. It doesn’t have to be a big, bulky book with random newspaper articles and report cards thrown in. You can make it look like art when you open it up, and you can change the presentation of it, so it’s something handy.” Paper Vineyard carries everything needed to create not only scrapbooks, but custom greeting cards, home décor projects, wedding and party embellishments. Granado’s experienced staff of five is always willing to offer a word of advice or inspiration. “A lot of folks who come in need

a little help,” she says. “They’re going to find a level of expertise when they talk to individual staff members. My team can all answer questions on the different products we have in the store.” Paper Vineyard’s commercial-grade

laser cutter creates custom chipboard, paper and acetate words. “If you want to come in and get all

your grandkids’ names custom made, we can do that.” The store also carries more than 600 standard card stock colors, embossed paper, adhesive papers, seasonal lines and lots of glitter and bling. “I have a huge travel section. I try

to carry stuff from all the states, from international countries, things you’re just not going to find in the big box stores. You can literally scrapbook any moment in your life.” Paper Vineyard hosts parties and

events and offers around 20 classes a month on everything from greeting cards, mini books and home décor to Copic Marker techniques. Twice monthly, Paper Vineyard offers Competitor Coupon Day, honoring coupons from larger craft outlets, and on Friends & Family Night customers can use the store’s workroom while hobnobbing with like-minded crafters. “People bring in munchies and

drinks,” explains Granado. “They sign up with their girlfriends. All we ask is that they spend $10 while they’re in the store that night.” Granado understands how much paper crafting has changed in recent years, and advises new hobbyists “not to be overwhelmed.” “Just tackle one project at a time. Either pick out something at the store and we’ll sit down and help you put it together or work on it on your own. Then bring it back in. Show us what you made. We love that.” Paper Vineyard is at 590 N. Alma School Rd., Suite 32. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and Monday; noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The store is closed Tuesday.
