QUITE A STRETCH: Dozens of Valley residents perform the slow, muscle-strengthening movements of Tai Chi during last year’s World Tai Chi & Qigong Day. Submitted photo

Sharing benefits of Tai Chi globally Sun Lakes resident Kim Kubsch is embarking on a journey to Bhutan — a tiny

country nestled between Nepal, Tibet and India in the Himalayan Mountains — to share one of her life’s passions: Tai Chi. With only 7,000 tourist visas issued per year, this local Tai Chi instructor feels

fortunate to get an inside look at the Bhutanese culture where family and social harmony values are the top priority. The people of this country enjoy archery and yoga. Kubsch will introduce them to the harmony of Tai Chi and Qigong — her favorite way to relax the mind and body. Closer to home, SanTan Sun News families are invited to experience World Tai Chi &

Qigong Day (WTCD), a worldwide event that attracts thousands of people who share a common vision of hope and healing. The Scottsdale event is 10 a.m. to noon Sat., April 28 at the Franciscan Renewal Center, 5802 E. Lincoln Dr., Paradise Valley. Enjoy demonstrations and practice Tai Chi and Qigong in the sun, shade, standing or seated. Tai Chi and Qigong is especially helpful for those with Parkinson’s disease, chronic diseases, poor balance, diabetes and debilitating stress. Experience benefits of meditation

To reduce stress levels and find more

energy, Chandler residents are invited to attend a free public talk 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sat., April 28, on how Transcendental Meditation (TM) can reduce your stress while improving overall health. The program will take place in the Copper Room at the Chandler Downtown Library, 22 S. Delaware St. Scientific research conducted for 35

years on the Transcendental Meditation program shows the beneficial results from regular practice of the technique, according to Barby Ehrenburg, local certified teacher of TM, who is giving the talk. “These benefits include improved

physical health, sharper mental focus, reduction of stress-related illness, increased efficiency and improved personal relationships,” she says. Research also shows that TM can

have a positive effect on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and attention deficit disorder (ADD). Seating for the talk is by reservation

only. To reserve a seat, email behrenburg@tm.org or call Ehrenburg, at 602-524-5974
