Summer camps for kids SanTan Sun area parents looking for camps to help their children stay active and
engaged this summer will find what they seek at their fingertips with this summer camp guide. Whether children enjoy sports, want to learn to dance or just want to play with their peers in a variety of creative activities, there’s likely a perfect match. Popular camps fill up quickly, so early registration is highly recommended.
SPORTS CAMPS

meseroll.rich@chandler.k12.az.us For SanTan Sun-area boys and girls in first through eighth grades, a basketball camp will be held in two sessions from June 4 through 7 and June 11 through 14. First- through fourth-graders will meet
from 9 to 10:30 a.m., while fifth- through eighth-graders will meet from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Students will receive age-appropriate instruction in how to improve every part of their game, from ball handling, rebounding and passing to offense with and without the ball and the basics of shooting and defense. Cost is $65 for one week or $100 for both weeks and includes a camp T-shirt. Participants will need to wear tennis shoes, shorts and a T-shirt and bring water. To register and pay via credit or debit

loaves, baguettes, ciabatta and much more have hungry and appreciative customers keeping The Bread Connection staff busy, though the shop opened just weeks ago. “We also sell kettled bagels and
croissants and then depending on the day, we will have cinnamon rolls, danish or muffins,” says owner Becky Smeraldo. “Every day my baker will feature something different.”
The Bread Connection is not
Smeraldo’s first experience with her own bakery. In 1986, she ran Becky’s Bagels, a California bakery that she took over from her sister. In 1993, Smeraldo and late husband Manlio opened European Bakery in Chandler, which sold many different types of bread to a wide variety of local wholesale customers including Costco and AJ’s Fine Foods. In 2008, the bakery merged with

Gloomy, gray skies and chilly breezes greeted more than 300 people who attended the fifth annual ICAN SanTan Sun Family Fun Run, and with vendors and other participants, helped raise about $7,000 for the Chandler youth program. “Thank you so much for all your help, support, and partnership during the fifth Annual Fun Run!” emails ICAN’s Whitney Renaud, who was the staff liaison and primary coordinator of the event. “Despite the weather, I think we had the best one yet. Preliminary numbers show around $7,000! Exciting news for ICAN kids!”

through eighth grade, a basketball camp will be held at HHS in two sessions from June 4 through 7 and June 11 through 14. Students in kindergarten through
second grade will meet from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by third- through fifth-graders from 10:30 a.m. to noon and
sixth- through eighth-graders from noon to 1:30 p.m.
The camp will cover the fundamentals of shooting, passing and dribbling. Cost is $60 per week for
