Whether it’s because of a disease, illness, accident or other life-changing event, the center’s therapy services can help you on the road to recovery. An experienced team of rehabilitation and therapy staff members offers physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy programs.


Physical therapy


A physical therapist specializes in working with you to maintain or restore functional mobility by using specialized equipment and specific exercises, stretches and tech- niques. Physical therapy helps with:


• Pain management, including joint pain


Helping you on the road to recovery A


• Mobility, endurance, strength, balance and range of motion


• Patient and family education about adaptive exercises, practices and techniques


Occupational therapy


An occupational therapist specializes in helping you maintain or return to your life roles through the use of therapeutic methods, applied and assistive technology, and environmental modifications. Occu- pational therapy helps with:


• Home safety and fall prevention • Joint protection and stress management • Safe driving and community mobility


• Activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, grooming and eating


Speech therapy


A speech therapist offers comprehensive evaluations and individualized treatments for those who have developed speech, swallowing or cognitive problems. Speech therapy helps with:


• Functional communication skills and alternative communication needs


• Safe oral feeding and swallowing • Patient and family education


Resident Mary Rose Armagost uses the Nu-Step with the assistance of restorative aide Bob Sawyer.

The Good Samaritan Society – Osceola’s restorative nursing program helps residents maintain or improve their physical functioning to the best of their ability. Aides work with residents on different kinds of exercises, especially those that deal with walking and range of motion. Many residents love using the NuStep recum- bent cross trainer to stay active. The NuStep provides good range-of- motion exercises for the knees, hips, shoulders and elbows with little stress or impact to joints and muscles. 
