TIM and Tim’s Top Tips by Tim Lambie & Tim Jones

If you didn’t know already, you can add or “pin” a favourite program to the taskbar (or Quick launch in Vista) by right clicking on the program and selecting either that or the start menu. Microsoft have provided this feature to reduce the need for you to minimize everything to find a shortcut on the desktop in order to

start the program you want. To remove a program is the same procedure, but choose “unpin”.

If you are missing emails from individuals or organizations, then you should look every now and then in the spam box. I know this sounds obvious, but often people use a mail program on their PC to receive the emails, but the spam filter exists on the server and does not deliver the spam emails to the PC especially if your are with BTinternet. The best way to resolve this is to log in to the email on the server, then go to the options section and get the server to deliver the spam emails to the inbox. That way you will never miss out on that important email.

We are beginning to notice progress in the development of Broadband speeds in the local area. Whilst most of us know what speeds we are getting, most new connections that we are setting up are syncing with speeds of around 15mbps. This is not just limited to Tavistock, but to areas such as Yelverton and Dousland as well as some of the more remote regions. This does not mean however that the speed the computer is getting is the same as we are seeing in the router. It merely means that the line is more capable so that in the future the speed can be improved. Log in to the router and it will tell you the line speed and maybe you will see an improvement in the near future.

Those of you with the Met Office weather forecast as a home page may already know this, but for the rest of you that use the site infrequently, you will find that it is changing. The forecast now includes a “feels like” feature

which helps you decide whether or not to carry that extra jumper or coat after all. I quite like the “timeline” feature on the five day forecast too; it lets you see at a glance what the temperatures are doing over the course of the day.
