Tavistock Golf Club Open Day
Tavistock Golf Course looking its spectacular best - the perfect setting for the Club’s Open Day held on 24th March.
AT the start of the day the Club Captain, Richard Burrows, gave a brief presentation including Club functions, administration, Club officials and golfing activities. He emphasised that there are no tee- off times, never temporary greens and that the course very rarely closes because of the weather. It is a members club and in 2010 members voted to register the Club as a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC). Social members, he explained, also played an important part and enjoyed all that the Club has to offer including the excellent food and all day catering.
Glenn Richards, the Club’s Professional, and his assistant Professional, Simon Invest, were kept busy during the day giving taster lessons while the experienced golfers enjoyed playing the course which, as always, was in great condition.
“The Club’s ground staff have to contend with ponies, cattle and sheep” said Club Secretary Jonathan Coe, “but, due to their dedication and expertise, the course always plays well.”
“A wonderful day and a great turn out” said a delighted Club Captain. “In this financial climate to have over 40 people attending our Open Day and, more importantly, to sign up to join the Club, is great. I was especially pleased that several youngsters have joined. We have an excellent Junior Section so I am sure that they will quickly make friends, come to enjoy the game and become part of the team. The new Social members can enjoy the social programme we have planned for the summer.”
