National Diamond Jubilee Celebrations go local in Stoke Climsland

THE country’s capital will be at the core of the National Diamond Jubilee celebrations and an integral part of those celebrations will be The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines.

But you don’t have to journey to London....

Stoke Climsland will host a special three day Diamond Jubilee Whiteford Music Festival and are delighted to announce that The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, fresh from the national celebrations, will perform in a special concert to raise money for the Royal Naval and Royal Marines Charitable Trust.

The Royal Marines Big Band

The Royal Marines Band Service has a long history of producing high quality jazz ensembles, dance bands and big bands: The Oceanaires were a dance band formed from members of the Royal Marines from the Royal Naval School of Music, Burford. Bands from the School worked hard to raise morale with both the civilian and military personnel. Formed during the Second World War, The Oceanaires also went out to entertain in factories such as Ford’s Dagenham plant. The Big Band of the Royal Marines Band Plymouth performed in February this year with Jim Davidson, Jethro, Bobby Davro, Rick Wakeman and Claire Sweeney in another concert also in aid of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charitable Trust. The evening will also feature the superb voice of Captain Richard Long. As well as being Director of Music of the Band of HM Royal Marines Plymouth, Richard has sung at the Royal Albert Hall on several occasions, was the lead singer at the wedding reception of Prince Edward and Sophie nee Rhys- Jones in 1999 in Windsor Castle and also at the Buckingham Palace Garden Party for a celebration of HM Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002.
