PLOUGH RAFFLES OFF A CAR FOR ‘HEROES’

Ed Lowe, the landlord of the Plough is an ex-service- man and he and his wife Ruth hit on the idea when they were talking to Simon O’Toole one night and after discussing the proposition with T J Vickers the idea came to life. “We are having our an-

nual Fun Day on Sunday 6 May,” said Ed. “Our regulars and members of the public make very generous dona- tions when they hear what we are doing and last year the idea took off. This year we wanted to do something a little bit different and we approached T J Vickers with our idea.”

Vickers were looking for ideas to mark their anniver- sary so the timing was just right as Matt Cole, director of T J Vickers said:

“Ed approached us and because the money was going to such a worthwhile cause like Help for Heroes it

seemed to good an opportu- nity to miss. We wish Ed and his team all the best with the raffle and we will be selling them from our Telford and Shrewsbury offices.”

T J Vickers are Suzuki and Fiat suppliers with sites in Telford and Shrewsbury. Lining up for the handing over ceremony are from left to right: Steve Carter (Sales Manager), Ruth Lowe, Si- mon O’Toole and Ed Lowe receiving the keys from Matt

Cole.

If you would like to pur- chase a ticket or donate a prize or even sponsor a head shaving event on Sun- day 6 May contact Ruth or Ed Lowe at the Plough. The Fund Day will have some- thing for everyone from tom- bola stalls to tank rides for the young and not so young. Everyone is welcome, you don’t have to be a Plough regular to come along and have a fun day.

Spring brass festival

Shropshire’s brass band musicians are joining for a special fund-raising concert to raise money for this year’s Ironbridge Gorge Brass Band Festival.

Entitled ‘Spring Festi- val Brass’, the concert is at 7.30pm, Saturday 21 April at All Saints Church, Wel- lington. Guest conductor will be Steve Pritchard Jones, Musical Director of Shrews- bury Brass Band, and play- ers from local brass bands will play a selection of brass band favourites.

Neil Fury, Festival Chair- man, said: “It’s the first time we’ve held a fund-raising concert. I’m very grateful to Steve and all the players for their time. One of the most popular parts of the main festival is when players from participating brass bands join together in a ‘massed bands’ performance. It’s al- ways enjoyable and lively and we thought it’d be good to replicate this in a spe-

cial concert to raise money for the festival in a ‘massed bands of Shropshire’ gather- ing with a fun musical pro- gramme.” Tickets are £5 each. Or- der in advance or pay on the door. For tickets in advance, call 07980 475335. For details on the 2012 Ironbridge Gorge Brass Band Festival, visit www. ironbridgebandfestival.co.uk or follow @ironbridgebrass
