Walking in the footsteps of Jesus

Pilgrimage to Israel

Jesus was neither just a figure confined to the pages of history, nor is he just a ‘free-floating’ object of devotion. Christians centre their lives on someone who was a real person but is also someone who is a living presence today.

Visiting the Holy Land has a similar power. To see the Lake of Galilee, to climb the Mount of Olives, to stand in the Judean wilderness… all these things bring the Bible stories alive in a new way.

But a pilgrimage is more than a ‘coach tour for Bible readers’. In the land of Jesus we look to meet him afresh. So worship and prayer is an important aspect of the trip.

Carpenter in Nazareth Village

A pilgrimage celebrates both aspects of Jesus Christ. Even in this age when so many of the world’s treasures are brought to us through our TV or computer screens, there is a wonder in seeing the real thing with our own eyes. After all the history documentaries about Henry VIII, nothing beats going to Hampton Court Palace oneself!

Would you be interested in being part of a parish pilgrimage in 2013?

8 day pilgrimage, late October 2013 Likely cost around £1500 (air travel and full board in hotels).

Across the Sea of Galilee

At the key places we will stop, read the Bible story and pray together. Travelling together in the footsteps of Jesus we will encounter him in a deeper way.
