Here we row... Local teenagers triumphed in an unusual sporting contest in Chesterfield
School rowing victory O
N your marks, get set, row! Pupils from Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School came top in the key stage three
category of a recent indoor rowing championship.
Held at Queen’s Park Sports Centre, Chesterfield, as part of the national School Games, 16 students from the Dronfield secondary school competed in a series of individual and relay races.
With every class having the chance to give rowing machines a go, the pupils with the best times were chosen to represent their school at the recent competition.
Speaking before the event, PE teacher Liam Stuart said: “We’ve got some good rowers, but there are some other strong schools here.”
Organised by the NE Derbyshire School Sports Partnership, in conjunction with the Chesterfield and Bolsover branches, the event was the first of its kind, with the winning school team from each district, for both key stages three and four, progressing to the County Final.
