Delight for Dolphins A

It’s been a year to remember for swimmers from the local Dronfield Dolphins club

CELEBRATION evening at Coal Aston Village Hall saw swimmers from the Dronfeld Dolphins being presented with awards by the Mayor of Dronfield. The annual awards evening saw swimmers who competed in the 2012 Club Championships, held at Eckington Swimming Pool, receive their trophies and medals from Coun Doug Oxspring. The evening also recognised the achievements of the teams of swimmers who had represented the club in the National Arena Swimming League and the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Junior Swimming League competitions throughout the year. Laura Campbell, of the Derbyshire Amateur Swimming Association, also attended to present the 2012 Shape Trophy to Georgia Hemingway for showing outstanding commitment and loyalty to the club.

Club captains Charlotte Pheasey and Matthew Carroll presented the Mayor, Coun Doug Oxspring, and the Mayoress, Mrs Sue Oxspring, with gifts and flowers

If you’re browsing the 2012 holiday brochures but wonder how you could ever pay for the trip of your dreams, the answer could well be lurking at the back of a drawer, cupboard or jewellery box. Cash in your unwanted gold while prices are high and then pack your suitcases!

IF you’ve decided it’s time to give your house a big spring clean, be careful what you decide to get rid of.

Many people don’t realise the value of scrap gold and old jewellery, so make sure you don’t throw money down the drain. Take anything you do find to be valued at D.W. Garretts.

Established in the heart of Woodseats for nearly a century, this local jeweller promises honest estimates and fair prices for gold, which is still holding its record-high prices. With more than 30 years experience, proprietor David is an industry expert and is happy to value anything you find while you’re having a clear out to ensure you don’t accidentally bin something that could partly pay for your holiday.

“At the moment, lots of people are using the money they leave here with to book

holidays,” said David. “I always think it’s better for somebody to bring their items in because they often don’t realise it’s gold or it’s valuable. I can give them an idea of what it is and what it’s worth.”

Having been handed a wide range of things to value - including gold teeth - he added: “Even broken jewellery fetches money these days. People think it’s just rubbish but it’s not.”

Many people who visit the friendly jewellers bring with them items that have been left to them by a relative, and most are surprised with just how much things can be worth. Explained David: “Everyone seems to leave here with quite a bit of money. We have done a couple of deceased estates recently that have fetched quite a lot for the customer.” As well as buying gold, Garrett sells a wide

range of jewellery and

watches, with

people able to part-

exchange something old for something new or put deposits on the more expensive items. Whether you want to treat yourself, or someone else, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a wider range of quality items in the area, all sold at competitive prices. D. W. Garrett is also able to repair watches and pieces of jewellery, so if you have a favourite necklace or bracelet that’s seen better days, bring it in to find out about getting it refurbished so it looks like new again.

D.W. Garrett Jewellers is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5.30pm at 724 Chesterfield Road, Woodseats, Sheffield 8. Tel 0114 255 4814
