dronfield EYE Married for 60 years

Meet the Dronfield couple who have plenty to smile about this Spring

We’ve been together now for 60 years... Eric and Kath Jones of Moray Place C

ELEBRATING their Diamond Wedding towards the end of March were Dronfield couple Eric and Kath Jones.

The pair first met on the dodgems at Cleethorpes in 1951 when Eric was posted to the seaside town with the Army and Kath was on holiday. Married at Dronfield Parish Church the following Spring, the couple have lived in the town ever since, at Gosforth Lane, Sycamore Avenue and, for the past three years, in a bungalow at Moray Place.

Kath (79), whose maiden name was also Jones, worked for a short while after their marriage at William Lees on Callywhite Lane. Eric (81) spent his working life as a driver, taking to the road for Eyres of Chesterfield, then as a bus and ambulance driver before finishing on milk tankers. He later became a Special Constable in the local area and then became a familiar figure driving the old Dronfield Community Bus.

The couple have a son, three daughters, ten grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Eric and Kath outside Dronfield Parish Church in 1952 10k run litter plea Guide thanks

Dear Dronfield Eye, I HAVE no doubt that the recent Dronfield 10k Run and Fun Run were a great success and benefited from splendid weather.

As always, the event seemed to be well-planned and organised. However, the aftermath was not so splendid. Predictably and perhaps unavoidably, huge amounts of litter and other rubbish were generated which far exceeded the capacity of the few bins provided for normal use. Equally predictably, this was strewn over the whole area around the Pentland Road shops and green.

Could I request, through your columns, that in future years, the organisers arrange for a comprehensive litter-pick immediately after the event and aim to leave the whole area as they found? It would be appreciated! Dr Peter Hayward, Local resident

10 dronfield EYE Dear Dronfield Eye,

I JUST want to pass on thanks to you for producing the 2012 Dronfield Town Guide.

My husband and I are newcomers to the area and the Guide dropped through our letter-box just after we moved into our new home.

We have already used its information to join two local societies and this has helped us to make some very good friends. We already feel a part of the town.

Thanks again!

L. Johnstone, Barnes Avenue, Dronfield Woodhouse
