Union Boys Soccer Making Statement


Ranked No. 1 in Class 6A the Union boys have looked like the state favorite in Class 6A. With big wins over Broken Arrow, Bishop Kelley and Stillwater, the Redskins have recorded five shut-outs as of April 10th. The clubs only lose came on the road against Auburn High School in Alabama and that was only by one point. Christian Mata, who has signed to play at Tulsa, ha been the star for the Redskins. Big games are still on the schedule against Jenks and Ponca City. The last state title for the Union boys came in 2007 when both the boys and girls swept Class 6A.

Senior Jordan Jones set a new school record for the Coweta Track and Field team in the shot-put on March 30th during a meet in Okmulgee. Jones tossed the shot, 53’-9” smashing the old school record by more than 3-feet-6. The old mark was set in 2004 by John Hailey during the Catoosa Invitational. Jones is working hard to find a spot on the podium this May during the state meet. Regionals are set for May 5th with the location to be determined and the state finals are set for May 10th-12th at Yukon High School.

ONEOK Fields Hosts the High School Showcase


Every year the home of the Tulsa Drillers opens up for area high school teams to take the field and play some great baseball at ONEOK Field. This year was no different. Twelve teams took part in the three-day showcase including huge rivalry games featuring Union vs. Jenks, Verdigris vs. Inola, and Broken Arrow vs. Owasso. Union dropped their game against Jenks, 4-2 while Broken Arrow topped Owasso, 2-1. Winning pitcher Jacob Evans got help in the sixth inning from the bats of Brady Biggs, Zack Mills, and catcher Cody Ziegler. At 21-3 (as of April 10th) the Broken Arrow Tigers are still the No. 1 ranked team in the state.
