Open mic night
welcomes performers from all walks of life
W
atford has certainly got talent. Thanks to a local community group, talented people
throughout the borough meet once a month to share their talents and perform. The Dial Up created by Watford resident Alex-
ander Williams, 27, meets on the first Sunday of every month in the Green Bar at the Watford Palace Theatre. It is an open mic event that allows anyone to
take part and performers from all walks of life are welcome. Jazz musician and author Alex told My Wat-
ford News: ―I first started the Dial Up in the Seven Dials Club in London with pianist Jon Medcalf as a way for like-minded people to enjoy live music and performances. That is still going but I wanted to bring it to the Watford area as not only is it where I live, but because I know that we have many talented artists in Watford. ―In the first half I usually perform jazz songs
from the Great American Song Book with a var- ied list of special guests, and then in the second half we invite audience members to participate –

we have such a wonderful range of creativity including instrumentalists, authors, poets, ac- tors, magicians and even dancers.‖ Alex added that it provides a great platform
for artists to perform as well as enabling them to gain a greater confidence in their performance. He said: ―I aim to make this a friendly and
supportive community group. It is a great place to meet new people and network as well as per- form.‖
