I-10/Loop 303 interchange starting to take shape

by Brent Whiting staff writer

Falsework will start to go up this week for the $133 million interchange under construction at Interstate 10 and Loop 303 in Goodyear, officials said. The falsework, which is used to support a bridge until it can support itself, will mark a sign of progress, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Bridge piers have been in place since the start of the project in early December, ADOT officials said. With the falsework, the interchange will be taking shape. The falsework construction was

expected to start late Monday and continue through about 5 a.m. Friday, officials said. To ensure a safe work zone, McDowell Road will be closed nightly in both directions between Citrus Road and Loop 303, officials said. Motorists can use Van

Buren Street as a detour.

The interchange, which is at Cotton Lane in Goodyear, will include elevated ramps that will connect Loop 303 and I-10, similar to the Loop 101 and I-10 interchange in Tolleson and Avondale. The falsework is part of Phase I construction projects, including new I-10 interchanges at Sarival Avenue and Citrus Road and improvements to Cotton Lane and Thomas Road, officials said.

FLYING HIGH

In addition, Loop 303 is being widened to a six-lane freeway with three lanes in each direction from I-10 in Goodyear to U.S. 60 in Surprise, officials said.

The interchange at Loop 303 and I-10 is set for completion in fall 2014, weather permitting, according to ADOT.
