6 Spoon News IRB Spirit of Rugby Award
We are very proud to announce that the
International Rugby Board have recognised the incredible fundraising of Spoon and its volunteers by awarding the charity with the coveted Spirit of Rugby Award for more than 25 years of work with underprivileged children across the four home nations. Wooden Spoon is the first charity to be recognised with this award. The prestigious Spirit of Rugby Award recognises the incredible feats that can be achieved through Rugby both on and off the field, and recognises those who through selfless action influence the lives of others, make significant contribution to their communities and demonstrate the force for good that sport can be in all areas of the world.
It is a very special accolade for everyone who has been involved with Wooden Spoon over the years, and we thank you for your continued time and effort that you give so generously. It was an honour to see the charity recognised and sharing a stage with the world’s greatest players, past and present, and hopefully this will give us a platform to provide even more opportunities and support for disadvantaged young people all over the British Isles. Founder Peter Scott and CEO Bill Hill collected the award on behalf of the charity. Peter Scott, Honorary Life President and founder member of Wooden Spoon, “When a group of my friends made that journey to Ireland we never imagined that what started out as a bit of fun could turn out to be a charity that has achieved so much. The recognition through the Spirit of Rugby Award acknowledges the tremendous effort by our regional volunteers and all that
have helped Wooden Spoon throughout the years and I am extremely privileged to accept this prestigious award on their behalf”. We really cannot thank all of our members, volunteers and regional committee’s enough. This award is down to your hard work and we hope that this recognition will give you all a huge sense of pride in what you have done for this charity and in particular the children you have helped through your efforts.
