three infant schools in the area. School head teacher Susan Rowlands told a packed hall that young pupils were given letters to take home appealing for help in raising cash for the project.
Mrs Rowlands said: “Our appeals did not meet with any success but all was not lost because we did get a solitary response from a lady named Carol Harris. “In a lovely letter Mrs Harris said that she knew just the person to help to fund the playground-her husband Robert who is an administrator with the Wooden Spoon organisation.”

The refurbishment project, funded with the help of Wooden Spoon, will turn the Wooden Spoon Pool into a state of the art exercise and ‘entertainment’ centre with computer controlled sound, light and sensory stimulation equipment. Wooden Spoon donated £19,500 to help build the hydrotherapy pool. This is a crucial facility, particularly for those non-ambulatory children, as it enables them to exercise in a non-weight bearing environment, suspended by an overhead hoist and chair. All the pupils use the pool at least twice a week.
