foot facility for nonprofit youth program ICAN at its grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony from 4 to 7 p.m. Thu., May 10. The much-needed expansion for the at-risk youth program is at Folley Memorial Park at 650 E. Morelos St. in Chandler.

ICAN’s doors. Its current 6,000-square-foot facility is in the downtown Chandler area in the path of the City of Chandler’s future municipal development plans. Piper Charitable Trust, Dignity Health, Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation, Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority, Phoenix Suns Charities, Dave Trout Charities, Kovach Metal Roofing, the Gila River Indian Community and many more. Weed pulling effort blossom Workers needed to help restore homes
Chandler’s annual community weed-pulling campaign, Let’s Pull Together, runs through May 31 and carries a new distinction: it will be featured at the May conference of Neighborhoods, USA (ENUSA), a national nonprofit organization committed to strengthening neighborhoods, as a competitor for the title of the country’s Best Neighborhood Program. Let’s Pull Together, headed by Chandler City Councilman Kevin Hartke, is part of the
City’s Neighborhood Programs and For Our City-Chandler, which identifies and coordinates community service needs with the resources of service, business and church groups; neighborhood organizations; employers; and others. Initiated in 2010, the Let’s Pull Together campaign asks residents to help locate properties
with overgrown weeds and acquire authorization to perform yard maintenance. Groups of volunteers are organized to remove the weeds and are provided trash bags by the city. “This year’s war on weeds will build upon last year’s event,” Hartke says. “We saw 174
volunteers remove weeds from 21 Chandler homes. Especially rewarding is the opportunity to assist seniors and disabled residents who are unable to perform the work, and to improve the appearance of neighborhoods where vacant, foreclosed homes are overgrown with weeds.” Find information on controlling weeds at the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension
Service’s website at
www.ag.arizona.edu/urbanipm/weeds/weedcontrol.html. For information on becoming involved in Let’s Pull Together, contact Judy Ramos at 480-782-4348 or

Help restore homes Volunteers interested in donating supplies or services to help restore beauty to homes
around downtown Chandler can participate in the city’s fifth annual Live Love Day from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., April 21. Live Love, in partnership with City of Chandler Neighborhood Programs, gives community
workers the chance to work alongside downtown residents from nine neighborhoods to improve their homes and streets. Some of the jobs include landscaping and yard maintenance, painting, minor plumbing and electrical work. Live Love is a nonprofit organization that relies on funding from donations and community
grants. Live Love is looking for donations such as snacks, drinks, flowers, rock, paint, paint sprayers or gift cards. For more information, caontact Melinda Gunther at 480-272-9929 or
