Youth New Chandler principals named Joel Knorr Amy Kramb Becky Henderson
Three Chandler schools will welcome new principals for the 2012-13 school year. Becky Henderson, principal at Harris Elementary in the Gilbert Unified School District since 2005, takes over as principal at San Marcos Elementary. Henderson is a Rodel Foundation Exemplary Principal and led Harris to a letter grade of “A” last year. Basha Elementary welcomes Joel Knorr, principal of Mountain View Elementary in the Dysart Unified School District since 2007 and also a former principal in Florence. Knorr returns to the Chandler Unified School District, where he taught at Sanborn and Conley elementary schools and was the Title I coordinator at Galveston Elementary and the dean of students at Conley. Amy Kramb also returns to the Chandler district, replacing Susie Jayne at Fulton Elementary.
Kramb previously taught in Chandler and was dean at Basha Elementary and CTA-Independence prior to becoming principal at Las Sendas Elementary in Mesa. For more information, visit

CGCC registering for summer, fall Registration for summer and fall 2012
classes is currently underway at Chandler- Gilbert Community College. Evening, weekend and online classes
are available at CGCC. Distance learning, hybrid-format and self-paced classes are also available. The college’s first summer session begins
May 29, followed by the second summer session beginning July 2. The fall semester begins Aug. 18. Students must be enrolled
on the first day of the class; students are not permitted to enroll in a class once it has started. To view the college’s summer and fall

SanTan Sun-area girls who enjoy
swim and dance are invited to participate in Little Flippers Synchro School, a synchronized swim class hosted by the Arizona Desert Dolphins from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through May 21 at Hamilton Aquatic Center in Chandler. Cost is $30 for the entire session.

Applications now accepted to summer STEM program Area eighth- to eleventh-grade students have until April 15 to submit applications for the U.S.
Naval Academy Summer STEM Program 2012. The Summer STEM Program, an overnight academic program focusing on science,
technology, engineering and mathematics, is held in three sessions: June 4 through 9 for rising eighth- and ninth-graders; June 11 through 16 for rising 10th-graders; and June 18 through 23 for rising 11th-graders. Students must be in good academic standing with an interest in math and science.
Approximately 480 students from around the U.S. will be accepted to the program, where they will experience real-life applications of math and science principles through hands-on practical learning, working with Naval Academy professors in world-class lab facilities that provide a unique learning environment outside the traditional classroom. All students selected to participate pay approximately $200 for the program and are
responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Applicants will be notified of their application status in May. For more information about NASS and the application process, call 410-293-4361 or visit
