Business Apple lovers pick Orchard
BY JOAN WESTLAKE Computer-wise families and elite techies find a bumper crop of great Apple bargains and skilled repair at The Orchard. Justin Cannon says when he and Travis Mahaffey looked to open a store in addition to their Mesa Mac shop, Chandler seemed an ideal choice. Since last August, business at the new store has blossomed. Responding to customer demand, The Orchard is increasing the accessories it
offers. New wall displays were recently installed so customers can view headphones, cases, cords and other products. Cannon says families in the area are looking for affordable value in computers, and have the knowledge to recognize a good buy, such as a $1,200 Mac book for $499 for their high school student or home office. Purchases come with a standard warranty on defects plus a full-year’s service plan that includes accidental damage. And, the store takes trade-ins for an inventory of parts for repair.
The shop also caters to the region’s high-
tech industry crowd looking to save money on powerful, top-of-the-line computers. Among recent bargains was a brand new, 27- inch iMac retailing for $2,300 which sold for $1,650 at The Orchard. The shop has become a favorite of those looking for powerful graphics, music and video capabilities such as that of Mac Pro Towers. Starting at $1,000, buyers can find equipment that typically retails for $3,500. “The Salt Mine studio, which records

artists like Lil Wayne and DMX, paid $3,500 for $18,000 in equipment,” Cannon says. While great Apple buys fill baskets of shoppers, Cannon says the majority of the

store’s work is service. Customers bring in tablets that don’t bounce well, iPhones with cracked faces and older computers that could function longer with some repair. Customers are often given the option of new or used parts. For example, a new replacement screen is $500, or one that is used but in good condition is $150. Two certified Apple technicians, Corey Hough and Cameron Owens, are on staff. Cannon’s brother Jarod works in the business and their father, Kevin, also lends a hand. The Orchard is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily
except Sunday when it closes at 5 p.m. The store is at 1919 W. Chandler Blvd. Call 480- 855-1700 or go to
