Recommendations and strategies on revitalizing seven
key intersections and making Chandler more competitive for re-tenanting, redevelopment and reuse projects are now available from Mayor Jay Tibshraeny’s 4-Corner Retail Committee. As new freeways and shopping centers are built,
traffic and shopping patterns shift, leaving challenges at intersections throughout the city. The assembled committee of residents and members of the development community have met over the past six months and recently finalized its findings.
The final report includes 10 recommendations to help struggling retail centers overcome their issues, including: creating a team to support developers, examining parking ratios in redevelopment areas, reviewing the code related to housing density, reviewing landscape requirements, examining the sign code, managing visibility to shopping centers, continuing to use the Commercial Reinvestment Program as a tool, evaluating mechanisms for dealing with abandoned and blighted buildings, creating a list of properties and owners to engage in redevelopment and aggressively marketing vacant space for retail users or redevelopment. “This work is important to the long-term economic
health of our city,” says Tibshraeny. “There aren’t any quick or easy solutions, but the committee made excellent recommendations for Chandler to begin the work that needs to be done.” The complete report is available under the Reports link at

A 7 million-gallon-per-day (MGD) expansion will allow Chandler’s Airport Water Reclamation Facility to treat up to 22 MGD on a maximum month basis. The phase III, preconstruction and construction contract for this project at 905 E. Queen Creek Rd. in Chandler was recently awarded to the Southwest region of McCarthy Building Companies Inc. Throughout the construction process, all elements of the plant will remain operational and capable of producing A+ reclaimed water. The project will include expansion of the existing facilities by adding an expanded head-works facility, new aeration basins, new clarifiers, expansion of the filtration and flocculation facilities and a new finished water reservoir. In late 2009, McCarthy completed construction of the Phase II Chandler Airport Water Reclamation Facility

Expansion project for the City of Chandler. This project expanded the facility’s liquid processing from 10 MGD to 15 MGD and included new equipment and reservoirs for the water reclamation distribution system and new processes in treating the 15 MGD of equivalent solids. The project received “Project of the Year” awards from the American Public Works Association and the Arizona Water Association. “The City of Chandler has one of the most robust
reclaimed water systems in the state,” says Frank Scopetti, vice president and business unit leader of McCarthy’s Water Services team. The anticipated construction schedule for phase III of
