COMPETITIONS “In August 2011 a friend told to audition for Northampton’s Got Talent, I didn’t know what to ex- pect, hundreds of people had auditioned and I remember being one of the last. I walked on stage in the middle of the Grosvenor Centre with 300 pairs of eyes on me, I was so nervous but man- aged to get through, I made it to the semi finals and eventually to the grand final. I had 7 days to figure out what to do and started writing a new song called ‘I Tink I’m Falling in Love with You’ and produced my first backing track on my own. I got up on stage and a big gust of wind hit my eyes which instantly made my eyes stream, it looked like I was crying, not a good look, unfortu- nately I didn’t win but had fun taking part. Since then I’ve reached the finals of Platform Festival at Te Deco Teatre, and was also a finalist at the National Finals of Open Mic UK which was held at no other than the O2 London, out of 9,000 people I reached the final 25 which was a massive achievement, I didn’t win but it was a brilliant experience. Each competition has definitely im- proved me as an artist and has given me greater confidence and hopefully some more followers”.
CHARITY “I’ve raised money for various charities over the last year, one being for ‘Te Adam Birds Appeal’ where I organised an all day music event inviting artists from all over the County to perform, local newspapers and radio stations helped broadcast the event, and local shops kindly donated prizes towards the raffle, just over £580 was raised. Another charity close to me is DeafBlind UK which helps DeafBlind people to live independently, not a lot of people know this but I am deaf in my right ear and can only feel 30% vibrations passed from the back of my leſt ear to right as my nerve never grew, sometimes it’s tricky trying to talk to people in crowded places but I wouldn’t know any different”.
FAVOURITE GIGS “One of my favourite places I’ve performed at would be Te Musician, Leicester, it’s such an amaz- ing place, great atmosphere and everyone truly respects what you do, the first time I played there was certainly a turning point for me, it took me out of my comfort zone and motivated me to do better. Te Picturedrome, Northampton, is another venue I love, everyday I’d drive passed it hop- ing I’d play there, and ultimately I did, I felt so privileged and have since performed there numer- ous times. One of the gigs which always surprised me was Rock n Fun Festival, Nottingham, I was one of the final acts to perform and was a little disappointed as there wasn’t much leſt of the audience, I started to sing and somehow directed people’s attention, by the end of the set I had people singing along even the security guards were enjoying themselves, I even invited a lady from the crowd to join me on stage as spur of the moment, I came off stage and the reac- tion was amazing, I signed my first couple of autographs and met some lovely people. As well as running acoustic open mic nights around the County I also love running stages at festivals, one in particular would be Te Umbrella Festival which is held every August. Last year I was kindly asked to run the acoustic stage, 15-20,000 people attended and the weekend was a huge success, I’ll never forget the vast amount of community spirit in the air that day”.
ALBUM “For so long I wanted to record an album but never found the right producer who had the same vision as me, it was frustrating. In the summer of 2011 Harley-Joe Arnold approached me, we recorded the track ‘Leſt Right Leſt, and it was the first time a track had been produced the way I wanted it, hurray! Me and Harley started working on the album straight away but there was some- thing missing, I remembered meeting a guy called Joe Wright, he was an amazing guitarist and when approached he was happy to take on the challenge, one song turned into many more and the album was complete. Ten it was time for the album launch but needed a band, I already had Joe as my guitarist but needed a bass player, I wanted Harley to join the band but didn’t need a 3rd guitarist so he taught himself to play the bass, then all we needed was a drummer, I had so many people recommended to me but Ricardo Bonito had that some- thing special, I sent some tracks to him and within days he had learnt everything, 2 rehearsals later and the band were ready to perform. On 29th October 2011 I released the album titled ‘Ni Ni’ and the album launch was fantastic”.
