The real stars for us in Amboseli were the elephants, and obviously the mountain. As the afternoon drew to a close we watched a large herd of elephant wallowing in one of the Amboseli swamps. I think we saw about 30 to 40. This was another magic moment on the Safari, and we now had the advantage of time to simply stand watch and marvel.
Amboseli Serena Lodge is ethnic Masai with all mod cons. Obviously welcome after the rough life in Tanzania. The Lodge and its staff were perfect, except perhaps for the cashiers, who, like some of their American customers, were in a permanent state of con- fusion.
