WHAT’S mAkiNg THE gOuRmET NEWS iN BATH? AWARDS
THE BEST OF THE SOUTH WEST
Last month saw the launch of the inaugural South West
Flavour Awards by Taste of the West to celebrate the best of hospitality and retail businesses in the region. The launch was a response to the increasing popularity in hospitality and retail for the South West and proves just how in demand our region is for quality food and services (a big pat on the back for us).
In addition to existing categories like best restaurant and best dining pub, there is a range of fun, new categories that have been announced, including best farmers’ market, best online retailer, best B&B and best fish and chip shop. Judges will look for commitment to local and regional sourcing, provision of fresh, traceable products and excellence in customer service.
John Sheaves, chief executive
of Taste of the West, said, “We are delighted to launch the South West Flavour Awards, which have been developed in response to the huge expansion in interest for our hospitality and retail awards. The awards are an excellent marketing tool… so it’s a great way to boost both awareness and sales.” Entry forms can be downloaded from the Taste of the West website and the deadline for entries is 27 April. Winners will be announced at the end of summer, with the awards ceremony taking place on 10 September. For more

The good life
Endless cocktails, delicious nibbles, beautiful people and sexy beats – these are elements of the good life we often daydream of. And while engaging in such indulgences every day isn’t
always a possibility, there is the weekend (or a weekday for a boozy lunch or an after work tipple if you’ve been good). Next time you’re in the mood for a fabulous night out in town or a relaxed afternoon meeting, make a beeline for IVY Bath. Located within the historic bridge house on Pulteney Bridge, IVY opened its doors to stylish Bathonians last month, bringing together fashion, culture and luxury for the city’s jet set. Handmade liqueurs, an extensive champagne list and bespoke cocktails are served alongside a modern British menu that gathers dishes from every cultural corner of the UK, making IVY the chi-chi hot spot for an intimate drink, business lunch or a decadent weekend.
The two-story space is thoughtfully designed and laid out, with a magnificent bar stocking 18 glass balloons filled with Vom Fass handmade liqueurs as the venue’s centre piece. There is also a catwalk bar – the only one in the South West – with plans of hosting regular fashion shows to support the city’s most elegant shops. And for those who wish to let their hair down and party until the wee hours of the morning, there is a dedicated private nightclub named velvet underground. For more 01225 335558
