Windham Baseball Looks to Make Mark this Spring
inception a few years back. “Our seniors lead by example through hard work and attention to detail,” Windham baseball head coach Derek Lee said. “We also have a strong sophomore class who benefi ted from varsity experience last year. This will enable them to approach the game like well-seasoned juniors.” Heading the list of returners to this year’s team are senior captains Steven Dastous and Tom Mullin. Dastous will play in the outfi eld, while Mullin will pitch and play third base. Other returners include senior Mike DiOrio (centerfi eld/
infi eld); juniors Matt Carbonello (left fi eld/pitcher) and Max Masse (outfi eld/designated hitter);and sophomores Adam Dolan (second base/pitcher), Jeff Peterson (fi rst base/pitcher), Zach Sprague (outfi eld), David Crichton (fi rst base/designated hitter), and Connor Whittemore (shortstop/second base/third base/pitcher). Promising newcomers to the roster include junior Daniel Farias(fi rst base/designated hitter); sophomore Greg Macary (pitcher/outfi eld); and freshmen Danny Moynihan (outfi eld/infi eld/pitcher), David Carbonello (catcher), and Ryan Hardacre (third base/pitcher). The team’s main goal this season is to play every inning with

by Chris White The Windham High baseball team enters the 2012 season with a young, but talented group of players looking to improve on a 3-14 record from a year ago. This will be the Jaguars’ fi rst season with seniors on the team, as they have three seniors who have been with the baseball program since its
100 percent focus and hustle, as that will lead to winning games. Many of Windham’s players will look to step into new roles after
working hard to improve in the off season. “Since our team is still relatively young in age, we must play
with the baseball IQ of seasoned veterans,” Lee said. ”Many of the players worked hard during the off season to improve their game. What these players lack in age they have made up in their commitment to continuously improve.”

players from last year’s squad, including its entire starting line-up. With added size and strength, plus multiple varsity contributors from other Windham teams, the Jaguars are in good position to make the next steps in their development. Key returners for the Jags include juniors Zach Breton (setter) and Dan Rousseau (middle hitter), as well as sophomores Tucker Lippold (setter/outside hitter), Andrew Lowman (outside/middle hitter), Tim Erdlen (libero)and Robert Harradon (setter). Promising newcomers include sophomores Adonic Lam and Evan Todd, and freshman Jack Grubbs. Rounding out Windham’s roster are senior Colby Putnam, and juniors Nick Alzamora, Alex Whitehead, and Brandon Bernyk. The team will be captained by Lippold, Breton, and Putnam. As a scrappy, hard-working team, Windham has a strong foundation to build on. With that, a number of additions to the coaching staff have

by Chris White A team’s improvement rate over the course of a season is usually a major factor in determining how successful it is, and it will be the most important piece of the puzzle for the Windham High boys’ volleyball team in its quest for success this spring. After fi nishing with a 2-14 record in their inaugural season last year, the Jaguars enter the 2012 season looking to (literally and fi guratively) improve by leaps and bounds. “Ultimately our season will be defi ned on a daily basis – how bad do we really want to develop as athletes and volleyball players?” Windham volleyball head coach Chris Baribeau said. “I think we’re very fortunate to have dedicated and motivated kids who are very eager to get out there and compete.” Through playing volleyball, the Jaguars are looking to enhance their athletic ability, strength, endurance, and quickness this season. They are also looking to build on their win total from last year and continue to develop fundamental skills. “We have a really great group of kids who came in planning to
work hard and aim high,” Baribeau said. “Our team motto has not changed from last year. We acknowledge that every single time we step into the gym we have an opportunity to get better and that’s where we’ll hang our hats this year – Improvement Every Day.” Although Windham is still fairly young, the team returns seven
