Town Administrator Jason Hoch lifted his daughter Alexa, 5, up to see the equipment.
by Lynne Ober Every year the Litchfi eld Fire Fighters Association sponsors its Ham and Bean Supper. The food is good; the feeling of community is great and on top of that kids get to climb through fi re trucks. It just doesn’t get any better than that – ask any kid oohing and ahhing over the fi re trucks or running to swing on the playground swings. Held at Griffi n Memorial School, the Ham and Bean Supper is the only fundraising event for the Firefi ghters Association. Funds raised support the annual scholarship given to a graduating Campbell High School senior, provide support for any fi refi ghters who get injured and often provide money for equipment for the fi re department. The association is a non-profi t group dedicated to promoting fi re safety as well as supporting many town activities. As always Warren Adams refused to share his magical bean recipe. “We always come,” said Brent Lemire. “We love to get out and chat with people in the community. This is what community should be about.” As always the event was very well supported by the community. Tables were fi lled with families. There was lots of laughter and good humor. Stories were swapped. Superintendent Dr. Elaine Cutler came to enjoy the fun.
“These kinds of events are what makes Litchfi eld special to me,” she said. “I’m seeing the same people at supper as I did at breakfast,” she smiled. Cutler, like many of us, attended both the Easter Bunny Breakfast and the Ham and Bean Supper. By the end of the evening Warren Adams was beaming.
“We had a great turnout. We’ll be able to support our community. It was just great seeing everyone in the community.” The next event that the Litchfi eld Firefi ghters Association will sponsor is the April 21 Service Recognition Banquette to be held at the California Room Banquette Hall. Dinner is served at 7 p.m., tickets are $25 per person. “Come and celebrate over 240 years of community service,” said Adams, who said that tickets could be purchased by calling the fi re station at 424-8071.
