Obituaries Guy A. LaFauci
Guy A. LaFauci, 87, a life-long resident of Malden, MA, passed away on March 27, 2012, in the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. Born on July 10, 1924, he
was the son of the late Antonio and Josephine (Vasalli) LaFauci. After immigrating from a small
town called Pezolo in Messina, Sicily, Antonio and Josephine Lafauci settled in Malden and opened A. Lafauci and Sons Fruit and Produce, a landmark on Cross Street in Boston’s historic North End. They raised their boys, Felix “Phil,” Nicholas,
Joseph and Gaetano “Guy” in Malden, where each of them were groomed to be respectful, hard working family men. Each son grew up, got married and had a family of his own. The brothers and their children continued to work together running the “fruit” store in the North End. The large close-knit family built houses alongside each other next to the home they grew up in, in Malden. They were taught to build with bricks and cement. Guy was a graduate of Malden High School with the class of 1942. After high school, Guy enlisted into the Army on January 19, 1945, to help fight during World War II. After bravely serving our country, he was honorably discharged as a Private, First Class on January 1, 1947. On September 7, 1947, Guy married his sweetheart, Olympia M. DiMare (of Boston’s former “West End”). Guy and Olympia settled into their Malden home where they lived for 64 years, raising their family. Sundays were spent with extended family dinners. Guy, “Papa,” carried on the traditions taught to him by his parents, raising his family to do the same. His own children, Josephine, Salvatore, Anthony, Dennis, Kenneth, Jane, Stephen and Gary worked in the North End fruit store as kids and young adults. Just recently, the doors were
closed. Guy was also a member of the VFW Post 144 of the North End before it closed. When his children were very small, Guy built a summer home on Arlington Pond in Salem. Family time was what Guy worked to enjoy. Guy and Olympia, their parents, siblings, their eight children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many cousins and friends have enjoyed summers there for many years, prompting most of Guys children to build homes of their own on Arlington Pond. Today we carry on the family values and
traditions taught to us by our Dad, Papa and great friend! We can only pray we carry on his legacy of dedication to family, hard work and togetherness. We love you and will miss you forever Papa. Take care of Ma now in heaven, Godspeed. Guy is survived by his eight children, Josephine
“Jaye” and Evan Davie of Malden, Salvatore and Diane LaFauci, and Anthony LaFauci, all of Salem, Dennis and Lori LaFauci of Malden, Kenny and Lynne LaFauci of Topsfield, MA, Jane and Richie Kozowyk of Revere, MA, Stephen and Anita LaFauci of Malden, and Gary and Felicia LaFauci of Middleton, MA, 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to Olympia and his parents, Guy
was preceded in death by his three brothers, Felix, Nicholas, and Joseph LaFauci. Funeral from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule
Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden, MA on Saturday, March 31, at 8:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church, 770 Salem Street, Malden at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, MA.
Visitation will be held in the funeral home on
Friday, March 30, from 3 to 8 p.m. Contributions in Guy’s memory may be made to the Fund for Autistic Children, Inc. 22 Meeting House Hill Rd. W. Newbury, MA 01985.
