Historic Achievement for Westfield and WasteSolve

Westfield has made history as the first shopping centre to win the Association for Organics Recycling (AfOR) ‘Food Waste Recycling Award’. Working with environmental consultancy WasteSolve to divert all food waste away from landfill, the award recognises Westfield’s huge achievement in setting new standards for sustainability in the retail industry, across centres including the new £1.75 billion Westfield Stratford City, Westfield London and Merry Hill. Westfield Stratford City in particular has set new records for sustainable retail

construction following the launch in 2011. This year’s AfOR award recognises the centre’s continued commitment to environmental best practice now it is open to the public. Westfield Stratford City is the largest urban shopping centre in Europe, covering 1.9 million square feet and employing more than 10,000 staff. The centre attracted 13.6 million visitors in the first 14 weeks of opening and offers more than 70 places to eat and drink; yet the site is sending 100 per cent of food waste to recycling through Anaerobic Digestion (AD). This is the largest amount of food waste diverted to AD from any single retail site in Europe.

Mako Networks and Phoenix Managed Networks Partner to Launch PaySecure

Mako Networks, a cloud-based network management company, and Phoenix Managed Networks, a payment network services provider, have announced an international agreement to provide a new solution called PaySecure to simplify payment security and compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS). Under the terms of the multimillion dollar agreement, Mako will provide its award-winning hardware and software-based service to Phoenix Managed Networks, which will serve as distributor and operator of a customised central management system that delivers cloud-based security management and PCI DSS compliance support to card-present merchants and SMBs. The PaySecure solution starts at merchant locations, where a Mako network appliance locks down payment networks to PCI DSS criteria and provides a primary connection to the Internet. Each cloud-managed network appliance provides on-site network security, while the Phoenix Managed Networks-operated central management system is used to configure and apply continuous compliance monitoring tools and safeguards.
